Kamnath

Built about 200 years ago by a Mayurdhwaj King, Kamnath Mahadev is a renowned temple located in Somnath, opposite to triveni sangam, close to suraj mandir. This is a large temple complex with a holy pond known as Dudhiyu Talav, water well known as Gangvo Kuvo and a bathing pool named as Mahadev no Kund. It is believed that Mayurdhwaj King recovered from leprosy after taking bath in this place, and devotees to this day take dip in this water for its healing powers. There is a saying in Gujarat, "He who does not bath at the Kund is as good as dead or is a living dead". A huge temple of the main deity, Kamnath, occupies the center surrounded by many small structures. It is believed that ages ago Shiva had reduced Kama to ashes by unleashing the fury of his third eye, hence the name Kamanath. In the interiors, there is a long, narrow cave where Adi Shankaracharya meditated for years. A spectacular presentation of all the twelve jyotirlings of Shiva is shown at the opening of this cave.

Ferocious Durga To Blissful Durga

Once, Goddess Durga was most ferocious who shined on Indra Keeladri after the distroyment of Durgamasuras the World’s evil. Jagadguru Sankaracharya came here and had a sacred thought of converting the ferocious Durga into most peaceful and blissful Durga. For this, Sankaracharya personally installed powerful Sri Chakra Machine(Yanthra) here. That’s all, from then Goddess Durga turned as peaceful and blissful to devotees. Then itself, Sankaracharaya ordered that Goddess Durga should be worshipped with Lalitha Sahasra Namasthotra daily. From then, Goddess Durga has been worshipping with Lalitha Sashasranama daily. Scholars say that Lalitha Sahasranama Sthotra is situated in Brahmandaspurana and most powerful. Hence Devasthanam arranged “Laksha Kumkumarchana” in the temple so that, devotees can worship Goddess Durga personally.Everyday 10 “Rithwiks” perform this Laksha Kumkumarchana according to the “Sasthra”.

Sharabha

Adi Shankaracharya refutes the sectarian Sharabha story and refers to this as 356th name of Vishnu Sahasranama as not mentioning the lion-killing animal at all and instead interprets the name to mean, "As the Lord shines in the body as the indwelling Self, He is called Sharabha, while the body is sara (perishable)."[
